Systems Change Advocate

My name is Sor Lo. I was born in Laos and grew up in Thailand. I speak Hmong, Lao, Thai, French, and English. I worked for American Friend Services Committee, CAMA Services, INC., International Committee for Migration, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Thailand from 1980 to 1988. I worked for Butte County Department of Social Services, Hmong Cultural Center of Butte County, and Chico Senior High School in 1999, after I graduated with a Master Degree in Political Science from California State University, Chico.

I was hired to work for Independent Living Services of Northern California as a Systems Change Advocate in November 2006. We, ILSNC staff, serve and advocate for seniors and people with disabilities over an eight-county region in Northern California. I am in the position to advocate for systems change to reduce physical, emotional, financial, and societal barriers to increase opportunities for seniors and people with disabilities to live independently in their own communities. People with disabilities are entitled to all human rights.

I affiliate with these following committees or organizations:
  1. Disability Organizing Group for Initiating Total Equality
  2. Hmong Disability Rights Council
