Emergency Citizens' Assembly Called for at the Office of Dan Logue, Member, California State Assembly, 3rd District
On Thursday, June 11, 2009 over 150 members of the Butte County State Budget Coalition, representing a broad range of social service, home health, health care and education providers will gather at the local office of Assemblyman Dan Logue (1550 Humboldt Rd., Chico) at 12:00 PM to demand responsible leadership by rejecting the "Cuts-Only" option for our state budget crisis.
Service providers as well as recipients of elder, disability, children's, home health, medical and educational services are calling for north state elected officials, including Assemblyman Jim Nielsen and Senator Sam Aanestad, to demand a budget solution that is based upon shared responsibility and shared sacrifice – not a solution that is placed entirely upon the most disadvantaged and politically powerless in our communities.
We are gathering as well to alert our communities that the "Cuts-Only" budget, demanded by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, represents the virtual destruction of California's "social safety net." Passage of the budget, as it stands, will cause unprecedented and unnecessary human suffering, further economic erosion and unduly strain our remaining public safety and medical systems – particularly our local emergency rooms.
We will remind Assemblyman Logue that the Cuts-Only Budget is a choice, and not something that was demanded by the majority of Californians when they rejected Governor Schwarzenegger's terribly flawed special election ballot propositions in May. We will call upon the Assemblyman to demonstrate responsible leadership and protect the citizens of his district.
